Technology embeds a digital signature in content at the moment of capture
Sony has launched Camera Verify, a new feature of its Camera Authenticity Solution.
The Camera Authenticity Solution sees C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity)2 digital signatures and Sony’s proprietary 3D depth information embedded in content when it is captured, with Camera Verify allowing news organisations to add a URL to this that allows third parties to view the verification results through another URLs directly issued by the verification site.
The organisations can select specific authenticity items to share during the content publication and distribution process. You can see how the system works in the image below, with its aim to counter AI-generated fakes from fooling news organisations.
This is currently only available for still images, with video content to be added after autumn 2025.
Authenticity of content has been a worry for many with the rise of AI-generated content, with Adobe another to launch a verification service, called Content Credentials, recently.
