Promos for a two-part Channel 4 series about Stephen Hawking post-produced by Smoke and Mirrors.

Brief: To create a 40" and 20" promo for the Channel 4 two-part series Stephen Hawking: Master Of The Universe.

How it was done: Director Grant Gilbert used photographic references, explosions and textures projected onto suspended mirrors to try to generate a feeling of time and space. The images were captured on 16mm film and passed to Smoke and Mirrors senior operator Dan Andrews.

Andrews incorporated camera moves with lighting and composited layers of shot reflections in DS Nitris while animating still images to achieve the 3D look and feel.
