A news-gathering system built around a mobile transmitter that is the size of a briefcase.

What does it do? It uses cellular networks to transmit broadcast-quality live video back to a newsroom, effectively doing the job of an SNG truck but in a much smaller frame.

How does it work? The transmitter encodes video directly from a camera at MPEG-4 (H.264) and then scans available wireless connections looking for a target bit rate. For news gathering, this would be roughly 2Mb/s for a live SD feed, with less than one second of talkback latency. The video is then distributed over multiple telecoms networks in order to maintain quality and reliability.
