Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) last week announced the approval of the DVB-3DTV specification.

The consortium of broadcasters and manufacturers set out details for the delivery system for frame compatible planostereoscopic 3D TV services.

It will mean that service providers can use their existing HD TV infrastructures to deliver 3D TV services that are compatible with 3D televisions.

The specification will be submitted to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for formal standardisation.
