Enteraction TV, the company behind Thomas Cook TV and London TV, is launching a channel dedicated to live quiz shows, games and puzzles.

The Great Big British Quiz is being launched on 20 June as a joint-venture with digital media company Transact Group. It will broadcast from 20 June, seven days a week between 9am and 1am on Sky.

Enteraction will produce and run the channel and Transact Group will provide satellite capacity, premium rate telephony and the associated web and interactive voice recognition (IVR) services.

Enteraction is developing a number of homegrown formats offering cash prizes reaching thousands of pounds. Games include The Great Big British Sports Quiz, The Great Big British General Knowledge Quiz, and The Great Big British Movies Quiz.

Some formats will allow viewers to compete against each other simultaneously by using their telephone buttons as buzzers.

In a similar vein to German broadcaster 9 Live Quiz TV, which aired for several months on E4's downtime last year, the shows will mainly be presenter-led and involve viewer participation by telephone.

The channel has hired 9 Live presenter Carole Machin to be one of the main presenters. It has also hired another 9 Live figure, Neil Breakwell, a senior producer on the channel, to become director of programmes for The Great Big British Quiz.

A former development producer for Endemol, he will start work in the next fortnight to manage the day-to-day running of the channel. He will work alongside Enteraction TV managing director Mark Murphy.
