The new version of the popular animation will make its debut in series six.

Hit has teamed up with London-based Hibbert Ralph Animation (HRTV) to make the series. In turn, HRTV has joined forces with Beijing-based animation studio Xing Xing.

The new production will also see the introduction of new storylines centered on the Pontypandy coastline and Neptune, a new lifeboat character.

Fireman Sam series six will be in production until January 2009. Delivery will commence in May 2008.

Previously the series had been made in 2D stop animation in a Welsh studio as a co-production with S4C. Hit bought out S4C's 50% stake in Fireman Samin March 2007.

The character made his UK TV debut in 1986.
