Post production houses across Soho were without phones lines or internet connections on Tuesday.

A building next to BT’s Shaftesbury Avenue exchange flooded in the early hours of Tuesday morning, knocking out power to the building and disrupting phones lines, broadband connections, ISDN lines and private circuits.

“It’s affecting thousands of businesses and residents,” a BT spokesman confirmed. “Engineers are trying to ascertain the extent of the damage and it is not yet possible to accurately predict when all services will be fully restored.”

Sohonet, which provides many Soho post houses with broadband connectivity, said its fibre network was unaffected by the outage.

Update: BT said that power was restored by 7pm on Tuesday and all services are now working again. Any customers still affected can call the BT status line on 0800 169 0199 or check online at www.bt.com/servicestatus.
