C4 and All3 chiefs kicked off Restart event by discussing risk-sharing, working culture and the impact of Covid on content

Alex Mahon and Jane Turton have called on broadcasters and indies to better “harness the UK’s creative community” and work closer together in partnership.

In conversation for the Restart conference, the Channel 4 and All3 Media chief executives discussed whether there are ways for broadcasers and producers to share risk.

“If you properly harness the creative community in the UK and get commercially creative brains back into the funding of some of that content, you can take it to the next level,” said Turton.

Mahon stressed the continued importance of the terms of trade but said there are ways broadcasters and indies can “work as a bit more of a partnership, which means both taking more risk”.

The pair also discussed their individual strategies, content appetites since Covid, ‘Britishness’ and the industry’s working culture.
