Tobias Marberger, a 29-year-old Swedish composer, romped home in the voting for this year's inaugural Extreme Idol, the Broadcast magazine and Extreme Music search for a new production music superstar. Dubbed a "kind of Pop Idol for composers", the competition attracted more than 10,000 votes from the general public with the Gothenburg-based musician polling 22% of the vote, significantly more than any other competitor. Not only crowned best new composer of the year, Marberger also wins two days recording time at Abbey Road Studios.Marberger, who works for post-production company EditHouse in Sweden, is currently writing music for the Swedish version of The Bachelor. A full profile will appear in B+ next month. Extreme Idol was launched in December last year and attracted more than 300 demos from wannabe composers from around the world. Judges drew up a shortlist of 50 before visitors to Extreme Music's site voted for the winner.
