Flicker Productions’ managing director Nick Underhill has moved to co-pro and finance indie Krempelwood in a newly created role, Broadcast can reveal.

Underhill has been appointed business development director and will play a key role in UK-based Krempelwood’s growth strategy as it expands in the US and Australia, developing alternative finance models and investment opportunities across all types of content content from inception to distribution.

Since its launch a decade ago, it has fully funded and co-produced around 100 television series, including recent Crime+Investigation titles Live Stream Killer and Heist: Robbing the Bank of England.

“The business development director role acknowledges that we’re eager to build on the success of our programme finance model that has proved hugely popular with broadcasters and producers alike,” said Krempelwood founders Blair Krempel and Mark Wood.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Nick to the team at this time of great change in our industry and the opportunities that the creator economy presents. His skills and experience will broaden our capability to develop new scalable partnerships and identify clear opportunities for growth and diversification.”

Underhill - who left Flicker at the beginning of the year - spent nearly a decade leading the factual indie, which he co-founded alongside Colleen Flynn in 2016. It scooped the Best Single Documentary Bafta last year for Ellie Simmonds: Finding My Secret Family.

Previously, he held senior roles as head of digital at Keo Films and digital strategy executive at Pact.

Underhill said: “Working with Blair and Mark in this new role, which extends Krempelwood’s innovative finance model into new areas, is incredibly exciting. The company has built a trusted reputation for helping producers and broadcasters bring ambitious television projects to life, and I’m thrilled to help evolve that success into new forms of content and into emerging markets.

“Building scalable partnerships, exploring international opportunities, and developing new routes for creative and commercial growth is a dream brief — and I can’t wait to get started.”

Creative director and co-founder Flynn is managing director of STV Studios-owned Flicker.
