Jenny Popplewell joins as head of factual

Uprising indie Rogan Productions has hired experienced documentary maker Jenny Popplewell as head of factual.

Reporting into creative director James Rogan and working alongside head of Rogan Scotland Mark Hedecoe and head of production Nicholas Franklin, Popplewell has more than 20 years’ experience as an acclaimed documentary creator.

Her recent directing credits include Netflix hits A Deadly American Marriage (Sandpaper Films) and What Jennifer Did (Raw TV). She has also directed the Bafta-nominated American Murder: The Family Next Door (Knickerbockerglory ) and was behind the BBC documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 (Firecracker) which inspired the West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Popplewell also previously served as head of popular factual at KnickerbockerGlory, helping shape the company’s creative direction and overseeing a slate of productions.

Rogan Productions said she would bring her ethos of championing underrepresented voices both on and off screen to her new position.

Managing director Soleta Rogan added that Popplewell has “an impressive track record of some of the most watched and memorable documentary and popular factual films in recent times. We look forward to Jenny helping to drive and support our expanding remit of output over the next stage in Rogan’s growth.”

Popplewell described Rogan Productions as “one of the industry’s eminent production companies” and said she admires its “quality and integrity”.

Rogan Productions’ slate includes Grenfell Uncovered which is set to premiere on Netflix later this month, Backlash: The Murder of George Floyd for the BBC and The Secret of Me on Channel 4.
