World Productions’ thriller Vigil is nominated in English Language Drama Series

The BBC has secured over 20 nominations for the 2022 Rockie Awards, more than twice the number than the next most-nominated companies Disney and National Geographic.

The UK’s main public broadcaster registered 23 nominations, 14 more than Nat Geo and Disney Branded Television, who scored nine nominations apiece. HBO were next with seven, ahead of Sky (6) and Warner Brothers (5).

In total, the UK secured the most nominations for any country with 59, ahead of the US (54), Canada’s 30, Australia’s nine and France (6).

Overall, 148 nominees from 45 countries have been shortlisted across 28 categories. The Rockie Awards is a flagship event in the Banff World Media Festival, set to return in-person this year for the first time since 2019.

The BBC secured recognition in the Arts & Culture and History & Biography sub-categories for Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story (Passion Pictures), Reclaiming Amy (Curious Films), 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room (Wish/Art Films) and Uprising (Rogan Productions, Lammas Park, Turbine Studios).

In Comedy Series: English Language the corporation had recognition for Motherland, Alma’s Not Normal and Starstruck. Channel 4 also got the nod in that sub-category for We Are Lady Parts.

BBC1’s Vigil is nominated in a competitive Drama Series: English Language shortlist which includes FX’s Pose and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

The UK has been recognised consistently at The Rockies, with Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag taking the top gong, The Grand Jury Prize, in 2021 and 2020, respectively.

The Rockie Awards Grand Jury includes Vanessa Brookman, head of kids EMEA, WarnerMedia; Caroline Hollick, Channel 4 head of drama; Trish Williams, executive director, scripted content, CBC; and James Blue, head, Smithsonian Channel.

“This year’s Rockie Awards are more international than ever before,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, executive director of the Banff World Media Festival. “The creative spirit and exceptional work across the nominees truly exemplifies the very best of global content.

“We can’t wait to share this year’s show and celebrate in-person with nominees and winners once again in Canada’s beautiful Rockie Mountains.”
