Sparking dreams: Julien Muresianu and Moe Bennani

Former Talpa exec Moe Bennani has set up Paris-based production company aiming to create programming through the use of artificial intelligence.

Bennani has teamed up with tech entrepreneur Julien Muresianu to found Dreamspark, which will have smart algorithms at its core, using data to hone idea generation, sales strategy, and executive production to create unscripted formats.

Dreamspark has developed a catalogue of more than 20 formats using its AI-infused development process focusing on social experiments, reality competitions and dating reality series. The company is in conversations with broadcasters and streamers in EMEA and North America.

Bennani has appointed Quentin Jomand as Dreamspark’s head of content.

Prior to setting up the indie, Bennani worked with Jomand at Federation-backed French unscripted outfit WeMake, creator of comedy format Until Dawn, Netflix’s debut French unscripted series.

Bennani played a key role in France 2’s La Grande Soirée de Noël and 5 Gold Rings; alongside international series Secret Duets and The Perfect Picture for RTL4, and The Best Family Recipe for SBS6 in The Netherlands. He joined WeMake in 2017 from Talpa where he was a senior creative.

“AI has already helped write pop ballads, mimicked the styles of great painters and informed creative decisions in filmmaking,” Bennani said.

“In order to bridge the gap between the fast-booming demand and the supply in formats, we combined our creativity and the computation power of AI, to find smarter ways of approaching format generation and understanding programming decisions.

“Thanks to Julien’s outstanding expertise, we already make better choices while answering the viewer’s needs and driving long-term growth.”

Muresianu added: “As of today, we see AI as a tremendous tool able to augment the abilities of humans in virtually all tasks, including creativity and most dimensions of what production is about. My know-how in AI brought me into many fields, and entertainment is one of the most exciting ones.”
