Sound specialist Jungle Group is moving into picture post with the launch of a new division called Giant.

Giant will be run by Smoke operator John Myers, who has joined from Resolution to become its director.

The division will initially comprise one Smoke suite, with room allocated for four more. The company plans to reassess the division's size after Christmas.

The Jungle Group managing director Graham Ebbs said: 'We decided on this move after several clients suggested it. The Jungle Group has worked with the likes of Viacom, E4 and Discovery, and John was mentioned several times, so we approached him.

'We will use the department to save time. It will be a supplementary service in terms of commercials and promos, meaning we won't have to send projects back to the graphics house that originally worked on them when there are problems with the visuals.'

The division will also save time on versioning, where subtitles have to be added to a picture. Myers will initially work on short-form projects but the division may move into long-form over time.

Myers said: 'We will grow the division organically and plan to have around eight suites within three years.'

The company, which comprises sub-divisions Marmalade, Zoo and Jungle, has invested more than £100,000 in the project so far.

The Jungle Group has worked on the sound for BBC4's The Thick of Itand Hogfatherfor Sky One.
