Running With The Devil: The Wild World Of John McAfee is a single film tracing the story of the life and death of its subject who invented the Anti-Virus software programme which made him $100m.

Following the murder of his neighbour, McAfee went on the run with a film crew, claiming that his life was in danger from armed gunmen. His escape from his alleged pursuers took him Belizean rainforest, across international borders, up river in the jungles of Guatemala and through the Bahamas on a boat loaded with guns, drugs and alcohol.

Running With The Devil, directed by Curious co-founders Charlie Russell and Dov Freedman, draws on hundreds of hours of archive footage and in-depth accounts from those who knew McAfee.

Freedman said that it had been more than a decade in the making.

“It’s a stranger-than-fiction story like no other, about a powerful man who lived his real life like it was a high-octane Hollywood movie – and the consequences this has for those closest to him,” he added.

Curious, which recently appointed Kim Shillinglaw as a non-exec director to drive growth, has a doc slate which includes BBC2’s Making Sense of Cancer with Hannay Fry, BBC2’s Reclaiming Amy and Channel 4’s Caroline Flack: Her Life & Death.
