The BBC has unveiled its FIFA World Cup 2026 promo film, Let’s Make It Iconic, which blends different filmmaking techniques including live action, 2d animation, hand-craft, stop frame animation and in-camera effects.
The film was created by made by the BBC’s in-house agency, BBC Creative, and made by Blinkink and illustrator Dan Evans. It was directed by Blinkink’s Nicos Livesey.

The film sees scarves, enamel badges, flags, drums, face paint and bobbleheads are all transformed into what the filmmakers call fanvases.
Livesey said: “It’s one of the most technical shoots we’ve ever taken on. With complex transitions, every object behaves differently and that’s the magic! The imperfections, the fingerprints, the texture are what make it feel alive.”

Tom Espezel, creative director at BBC Creative adds: “In a landscape of AI it felt more important than ever to focus on craft and celebrate the effort that goes into every expression of fandom.”
