Red Bee Media is behind ITV’s simulcast streaming of ITV1 and ITV2 for the Apple iPhone and a new app that will allow users to watch World Cup coverage ‘on the move.’

The free, ad-funded app is accessed via a web browser at www.itv.com and will stream all content from ITV1 and ITV2 via 3G and Wi Fi, where the rights to do so are owned by ITV.

It will go live on 11 June in time for the start of the football World Cup, allowing iPhone users to watch matches on the move.

ITV director of online and interactive Ben McOwen Wilson said: “Our aim at ITV is to make our content available when and where our viewers want to watch it. The ITV web app will enable iPhone users to find and watch their favourite ITV content, on the go and with this year’s World Cup fast approaching, iPhone football fans now have a new way to watch the latest action.”

As well as screening the latest football action, the application will also include schedule information, provided by Red Bee Media’s broadcast data services.

Red Bee Media’s metadata platform Teleview will be used to provide viewers with a rich, branded service while pre-roll advertising and clickable horizontal banners will be the vehicles for sponsorship and branding.
