Red Bee Media is providing media management and playout services for Five HD, the high definition version of the main Five channel which launches today (Tuesday 13 July). 

Five HD will broadcast a simulcast of Five’s schedule on both cable and satellite, including a number of programmes made in HD such as the new live entertainment series Don’t Stop Believing (pictured) which starts on Sunday (18 July).

Other HD shows include the Australian soaps Neighbours and Home & Away and American dramas such as The Mentalist, Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Red Bee Media will deliver the channel to both Sky and Virgin Media.

David Burge, the controller of operations and technology at Five, said: “Five HD is an exciting addition to our portfolio of channels that will broadcast a wide range of high quality programmes in high definition.”

Red Bee Media currently handles a number of media operations for Five including playout of its multi-channel offerings Fiver and Five USA, provision of disaster recovery services and management of video-on-demand services to multiple platforms including Demand Five.

It also provides access services including signing and audio description and metadata services such as listings for EPGs and websites.

Five’s main terrestrial channel is played out by Ascent Media Network Services.
