Television Systems Limited (TSL) has won a lucrative contract with BBC Broadcast to design, install, commission and integrate the playout and broadcast automation systems for the new Broadcast Centre currently being built in White City.

Although no kit has been specified yet, the appointment of a systems integrator signals the first real movements towards the centre becoming operational. The first services from the new centre are due to go on air in April 2004, and will be the beginning of the corporations move to a fully digital media set-up.

The centre aims to be able to playout media content for any platform and broadcaster.

Commenting on the move from the current TV Centre, director of playout and media services at BBC Broadcast Margaret Kelly said that "the smooth migration of all our current services is vital to our future business success".
