The board nominations for UK Post, the Department of Trade and Industry-backed trade body, have been finalised and it is not just the usual Soho suspects that feature. While the 35 shortlisted candidates include chief executives and managing directors such as David Jeffers of MPC, William Sargent of Framestore CFC, Robin Shenfield of The Mill, John Banks of VTR, Rushes' Joce Capper and Charles Leonard of Nats, there are also many non-Soho sections of the industry in the running for the seven elected positions, writes Rick Dacey.

The regions are covered by the appearance of Cardiff's Barcud Derwen, Bristol's Pinkhouse and Belfast's Offline Central, which are all on the voting form. Pinewood Studios, BBC Resources and ITV, via London Studios' Debbie Hills, also have places on the shortlist. Producers and designers of physical visual effects are also represented, with candidates standing from both Artem and Hothouse models.

Frontier Post managing director and board nominee Neil Hatton said: "Diversity is incredibly important as a lot of TV and film is produced outside London. As regional production looks set to continue to increase [UK Post] should not be wholly metro-centric."

Chairman Mike Luckwell is also very keen to see the companies from beyond the capital represented on the board. Luckwell, who favours the idea of a regional office for UK Post, said: "The regions are vital and we're doing all we can to encourage companies outside London and the south-east to join."

Voting is open only to companies that have applied for membership (applications may be sent with the voting form). All forms must be submitted no later than Friday 30 April.

The board's numbers may swell at a later date as additional board members will be co-opted to join if it is felt that an important industry sector is not represented. For the full shortlist of nominated board members see broadcastnow.co.uk.

The steering committee is currently interviewing for a full-time chief executive and an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
