The Machine Room has restored footage from the first ever World Cup final to be shown on a giant screen on 20 May, to kick off Fifa's 100th anniversary. The footage of the 1930 final between Uruguay and Argentina was 'in a terrible state when it was found', according to director and football historian Guy Oliver. The film went through a number of processes, including The Machine Room's new Teranex imageRestore system. This prepared the footage for combustion artist Stephen Miller, who added colour to the poorly contrasted film with the use of more than 4,000 mattes. The archive material has been stored in HD.
