Martin Sorrell's WPP firm and former Carlton chairman Michael Green have emerged as likely bidders for the post-production group The Moving Picture Company (MPC), which ITV plc are trying to sell.

According to reports, the worldwide advertising group WPP is among a dozen companies eyeing up the company, whose work has included special effects work on the Harry Potter movies.

WPP are believed to be interested in adding the company to its current post-production companies Metro Group and The Farm Group.

Meanwhile, ousted Carlton chairman Michael Green is also believed to be ready to invest some of his £100m fortune into MPC, which is valued at around £25m. Green recently revived his dormant corporate venture Tangent Industries and is believed to be working with former Carlton finance director Paul Murray.

Other bidders believed to be in the mix are private equity groups, Kodak, Rank and Thomson Multimedia's Technicolour.

ITV is currently attempting to sell off a string of non-core businesses, in a moves it hopes could raise up to £550m. At the beginning of this week it sold off Carlton Books for around £3m.
