Drone filming firm Batcam will provide live aerial shots for Sky Sport’s coverage of the Captial One Cup final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

It will be the first time a company has been permitted to operate a UAV on event days at the London stadium. 

Batcam will shoot footage of fans arriving at the stadium and capture shots of the London skyline and exteriors of the stadium including the Wembley Arch, which will be lit in the colours of Chelsea or Spurs depending on the results of a social media battle.     

Batcam co-founder Jon Hurndall: “We have worked with Sky a lot in the past and they have really embraced UAV technology for use in their shows.

“We also have a good relationship with the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority).

“The CAA has given us permission to fly within 40 metres of people in congested areas rather than the standard 150 metres, and we’ll be able to fly to an altitude of 400ft.”

Batcam will use a multi-rotor drone equipped with Timeline-supplied Cobham RF links and equipment and a Panasonic GH4 camera.

Batcam has previously provided live footage of speedway races for Sky Sports and shot 4K footage for Sky at last year’s Ryder Cup.
