Blackmagic seals deal for Eyeon

As well as motion graphics and high-end visual effects compositing, the latest version of the software includes paint, rotoscope, keying, layering and titling tools, along with a particle generator system. 

The deal, which was completed in the last 10 days, means that Eyeon is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Blackmagic.

Eyeon chief executive Steve Roberts said there are around 30,000 Fusion seats around the world, with Prime Focus among the biggest user of the software. Prime Focus mainly uses the software for stereoscopic conversion.  

Blackmagic chief executive Grant Petty (pictured) drew a comparison with the firm’s 2009 acquisition of DaVinci Systems, the developer of the Resolve grading software which Blackmagic has subsequently developed into a NLE system.

“We now have a second powerful software tool that has remarkable creative power,” Petty said.

“The guys at Eyeon are also excited as now we can add better sales and support for Eyeon’s software tools. So I think it’s a very good match,” he said.

Blackmagic said it was “business as usual” and that for the time being it would continue to sell and support the company’s software in its current form – which includes a subscription model.

Meanwhile, Blackmagic has also released PL mount versions of its Production Camera and Cinema Camera.

Both cameras capture CinemaDNG Raw and ProRes files using a built-in SSD recorder.
