Former Sequence Post founder Ben Foakes has launched a ‘Storage as a Service’ company for the media industry.

Base Media Cloud will offer pay per use, cloud-based solutions to address what it described as “exponential growth in volumes of high quality media files being acquired, stored and delivered” by media companies.

The company has already secured a deal with All3Media subsidiary Little Dot Studios to supply cloud storage with Signiant Media Shuttle integration.

The managed platform is built around Zadara Storage technology with integration with file transfer and work flow software applications from Signiant and Aspera.

It is hosted in the UK by Vodafone Cloud and Hosting Services and connected to Vodafone’s backbone fibre network.

The company said there would not be any retrieval charges or long term contracts.

Users can choose from two options: ‘simple’, which is priced at £35 per terabyte per month for “3-way mirror copies of every media file stored”, or a ‘premium’ service that uses Zadara’s ‘virtual private storage arrays’ and is charged by the hour.

Foakes stepped down as managing director of Sequence in January last year.

“This is just the beginning of our roadmap to provide end-to-end, software powered media work flows in the cloud.”
