One of the companies in The Mews group has gone into liquidation with debts of £1.7m.

Mews Media Facility Limited owes just over £1m to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in unpaid VAT, PAYE and National Insurance contributions, according to documents filed with Companies House.

The Mews had been negotiating with HMRC, but because the company is owed around £135,000 for post services on two feature films, liquidation was considered the only course of action.

The Mews managing director Gareth Mullaney said the final amount owed to HMRC was closer to £800,000.

He added it was business as usual for the post house group, which continues to trade.

He said: “Whilst there were sums owed to HMRC we were in negotiations with them to repay the debt which they were amenable to.

“The company’s liquidators are now seeking to recoup the bad debt through the courts as well as collect any monies from the investments made in these projects.

“There is a very healthy pipeline of work right the way through 2012 which another group company had started to work on. The day-to-day business will not be affected by this situation.”

Partner Simon Underwood at liquidator Menzies said: “As the situation evolves, we will get a full picture of the company’s assets. We would be pleased to hear from anyone with concerns.”
