Procam has acquired rival hire firm Hammerhead TV.

The deal, for a six-figure sum, is the first acquisition by Procam since the company’s management buyout earlier this year.

It gives Procam a foothold in Scotland and boosts its presence in London and Manchester.

Hammerhead TV, which was set up in 1988, has provided crew and equipment for shows including The Secret Millionaire, Britain’s Next Top Model and Dragon’s Den.

Procam chief executive John Brennan said consolidation in the hire market was “essential” for the future of the sector.

He drew a comparison with the reseller market which has a “handful of companies compared to the hundreds in hire”.

“Reducing the number of customers for the manufacturers giving the merged company more negotiating power to get better deals,” he said.

Brennan said that with greater size Procam would be able to establish a national brand, and he suggested that further acquisitions could be likely.

“The bottom line is that we have achieved strong organic growth by offering amazing service as well as listening to our clients requirements and investing in the very latest equipment.

“We are a people business, not a telesales box shifter, to continue moving forward we need brilliant people to help push our plan for further growth.”
