Soho stalwart Stanley Productions has shut down.

The Wardour Street business, which supplied tape, discs, drives, accessories as well as duplication and conversion services to the TV and film industries, has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The company, which was founded in 1975, ceased trading at the end of last week.

Company founder Stanley Aarons told Broadcast he closed the business because of ill health and changing market conditions.

“My health has a great deal to do with it; I’ve been battling cancer for the last year-and-a-half. I had to close the business because it was very difficult to carry on,” he said.

Aarons added that changes in technology and buying habits had contributed to the closure.

“It’s also been very difficult for us to compete with websites. The industry often opted for the cheapest route and that affected our sales.

“And there has been less demand for DVD and CD copies as people are doing the work themselves.”

Insolvency practitioner Streets SPW has been appointed.
