Brief Picture post services for the 10 x 60-minute adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel for BBC1.

How it was done Senior colourist Gareth Spensley’s brief was to create a vivid world with a grubby and grimy 17th century Paris at its centre, with films such as Pirates Of The Caribbean used as a reference for the look.

Spensley used Baselight’s colour curves to shift the Alexa’s colour palette towards coppery browns and cool blues, skewing the camera’s gamut at the LogC stage before applying primary correction. Senior online editor Justin Eely used Avid DS to add sword sparks, muzzle flashes and musket ball hits to many shots. Including fixes and embellishments, he worked on more than 500 shots over the course of the series.
