Broadcast Sports Inc (BSI) has set up an office in the UK as it expands into Europe and begins selling its RF products.

The US-based company, which provides cameras and audio systems for Nascar, the NBA and the PGA tour, will hire RF-over-fibre systems, cameras and audio systems for news, sport and live events in Europe and Asia.

The UK operation will be based in Watford and led by business development director Dave Remnant.

Tony Valentino has been appointed engineering director, while Adam Toner has relocated from BSI’s Maryland HQ to take on the role of UK head of engineering.

“There is fast-growing demand for state-of-the-art RF broadcast technology and services around the world,” said Remnant.

“The sales aspect is a first [for BSI] - like any other firm, we are looking for additional revenue streams.”

He said BSI would not go head-to- head with established UK facilities such as Presteigne Charter, Broadcast RF and SIS LIVE, but would instead work with them through the cross-hiring of kit.

As part of its European push, BSI will exhibit at the IBC trade show next month for the first time,where it will unveil the hire business.

The sales division will be launched at next year’s NAB show in Las Vegas.

One of the systems it will showcase in Amsterdam is the ‘Big Mac’, an HD camera on a slew ring that is currently used to capture on-board Nascar footage and has not been seen outside the US, according to Remnant.
