Sony has moved to reassure the broadcast sector that stock levels of professional monitors and its entry level professional camcorders are “back to usual levels”.

Ten of the Japan-based manufacturer’s factories were closed after they suffered severe damage as a result of the March earthquake, and although only one remains closed Sony said it is still experiencing “fluctuations in material or component supply”.

In response Sony said it is adjusting production levels at factories that were not damaged by the earthquake. It is also reallocating materials among Sony Group companies, using alternative components and expanding procurement channels in order to restore full production capacity.

In a statement Sony said: “We are happy to report that as a result of these recovery efforts, we have started to see yet more encouraging results with for example the supply of our professional monitors and most of our entry level professional camcorders brought back to its usual level.”

Earlier this month Sony said the factory where its HDCam SR tape is manufactured is expected to resume operations in May, with magnetic tape manufacturing due to restart at the end of July.
