Macromedia last week won its first patent counterclaim trial against Adobe Systems and was awarded damages of $4.9m (£3.4m).

The verdict follows an earlier suit brought by Adobe against Macromedia (Broadcast, 10.5.02). Macromedia chairman and chief executive Rob Burgess said: 'The score is now Adobe one, Macromedia one, customers zero.' A third case, brought by Macromedia against Adobe, is scheduled for June 2003.
