Autodesk has announced that the 2015 release of its 3D GFX package Softimage will be the last.

The final version is expected to ship next month.

Autodesk said it would continue to offer product support until April 2016.

The company added that it would offer Softimage subscription customers “no-cost options” to move to either Maya or 3ds Max software until February 2016.

In a statment, the company said it regretted any inconvenience caused by the decision to end-of-life Softimage.

“Although this decision is a difficult one, we do believe that by focusing our development efforts, we can better serve the needs of the media and entertainment industry and provide customers with better products, faster,” it said.

Autodesk bought the Softimage business unit and product line from Avid in 2008.
