The BBC is in talks with other public service broadcasters to agree a standard technology that would make IPTV content available on traditional television sets.

In the BBC's proposal to Ofcom on the future of PSB, director general Mark Thompson said a “simple, open standard” would massively open up the value of on-demand services like BBC iPlayer and 4oD.

The standard would be jointly developed by the BBC and other PSBs, for use by television manufacturers, and the brand would be jointly owned by all the PSBs as equal partners.
