Stefan Golaszewski behind series with Paapa Essiedu and Siobhán Cullen
The creator of BBC1 drama Marriage Stefan Golaszewski is writing, directing and exec producing a London-set drama for the channel called Babies, Broadcast has learned.
The indie behind ITV1’s Joan, Snowed-In Productions, is co-producing the 6 x 60-minute series with Golaszewski’s indie The Money Men, in association with All3Media International.
Paapa Essiedu (The Lazarus Project, Gangs of London) and Siobhán Cullen (Bodkin, Obituary) will star as a young couple navigating their way through the painful struggle of pregnancy loss but realising the strength of their relationship along the way. The series will also star Jack Bannon (Pennyworth, Pulse) and Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders, Wuthering Heights).
Ordered by BBC drama director Lindsay Salt, the executive producers alongside Golaszewski are Ruth Kenley-Letts (Joan, Strike) for Snowed-In Productions, Neil Blair (Fantastic Beasts, Strike) and Richard Laxton (Joan, Rain Dogs), and Danielle Scott-Haughton for the BBC.
The series producer is Lyndsay Robinson (Mum, Marriage) and the producer is Kelly Duffell (Black Mirror).
Golaszewski said: “Paapa, Siobhán, Jack and Charlotte are all incredible actors. Their warmth, detail and deep humanity are essential to telling this crucial story that’s never told.”
Kenley-Letts said: “The emotional truth of Stefan’s writing is exceptional. I am so excited to be playing a small part in bringing Stefan’s compelling story of love and hope to the screen.”
Golaszewski’s four-part Marriage, co-produced by The Forge and The Money Men, averaged an overnight audience of 2m (14.1%) across its broadcast in August 2022, rising to 6.2m after 28 days. Starring Sean Bean and Nicola Walker, it followed the ups and downs of a 30-year marriage.
Golaszewski also created Bafta-winning BBC sitcoms Him & Her and Mum. Big Talk Productions produced three series of Mum, starring Lesley Manville, and four series of Him & Her, starring Russell Tovey and Sarah Solemani.
Snowed-In Productions is also behind dramas including BBC1’s Mrs Wilson and Sky’s The Midwich Cuckoos.
