Fable Pictures’ BBC drama takes two gongs as The Jury: Murder Trial wins in reality

Fable Pictures’ Mr Loverman was the only show to win two categories at this year’s Bafta TV Awards 2025 with Lennie James and Ariyon Bakare triumphing in acting categories for the BBC1 critical hit.

The series, which struck a chord among its on and off-screen talent for being a “truly and totally diverse” production, saw James and Bakare staved off stiff competition in their respective lead and supporting actor categories to win. James took home his first acting Bafta up against David Tennant (Disney+’s Rivals), Gary Oldman (Apple TV+’s Slow Horses), Richard Gadd (Netflix’s Baby Reindeer), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) and Martin Freeman (The Responder). Bakare won out over Christopher Chung (Slow Horses), Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light for BBC1), Jonathan Pryce (Slow Horses), McKinley Belcher III (Netflix’s Eric) and Sonny Walker (Channel 4’s The Gathering).

Another standout winner was C4’s The Jury: Murder Trial, which beat BBC1’s The Traitors and Dragons’ Den, and Netflix’s Love Is Blind UK to the reality gong.

In the limited drama category ITV1 smash Mr Bates vs The Post Office won out against Netflix heavyweights Baby Reindeer and One Day and BBC1’s Lost Boys and Fairies to go alongside its special award honour, announced last month.

Continuing the acting first Ruth Jones scooped her debut TV Bafta, in the female comedy performance category, for BBC1’s Christmas ratings monster Gavin & Stacey: The Finale and first-time nominee Danny Dyer picked up the male equivalent for his turn in Sky comedy Mr. Bigstuff.

Jones beat off competition from Anjana Vasan (Channel 4’s We Are Lady Parts), Kate O’Flynn (Everyone Else Burns for C4), Lolly Adefope (HBO/Sky’s The Franchise) and Nicola Coughlan (C4’s Big Mood), while Dyer fended off Bilal Hasna (Disney+’s Extraordinary), Dylan Thomas-Smith (G’Wed for ITV1), Nabhaan Rizwan (Netflix’s Kaos), Oliver Savell (ITV1’s Changing Ends) and Phil Dunning (BBC3’s Smoggie Queens).

BBC1’s Blue Lights, produced by Two Cities Television and Gallagher Films, took home the drama series award against sibling Sherwood and Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light and Netflix’s Supacell.

Story Films’ C4 title To Catch a Copper won factual series beating Netflix’s American Nightmare, BBC1’s Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour and C4’s The Push: Murder on the Cliff.

Expectation’s BBC2 series Alma’s Not Normal won scripted comedy, while Zeppotron’s BBC1 comedy panel show Would I Lie to You? was a surprise winner in the entertainment category up against The 1% Club (ITV1) Taskmaster (C4) and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show (BBC1).

Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour (Zinc Media’s Rex for BBC2), won factual entertainment and Hoyo Films’ BBC2 film Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods won single documentary.

Specialist factual was won by Minnow Films’ BBC2 series Atomic People, news coverage was presented to BBC Breakfast and Duskwater Films’ C4 title State of Rage won current affairs.

The international gong went to Hulu/Disney+ smash Shogun over its sibling Say Nothing, C4 and BBC2 acquisitions After The Party and Colin From Accounts, True Detective: Night Coutnry (HBO/Sky Atlantic) and Netflix’s You Are Not Alone: Fighting the Wolfpack.

Elsewhere, comedian Joe Lycett scooped his second consecutive win for Late Night Lycett in the entertainment performance category.
