Warsaw base builds on streamer’s investment in Central and Eastern Europe

Netflix will open an office in Poland to build on its long-term commitment to the creative industries across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Based in Warsaw, the hub will aid long-term cooperation in the region and deepen existing relationships between the streamer and creators and producers.

“The creativity and potential of the local industry make Warsaw a great place to base our business across Central and Eastern Europe,” wrote Larry Tenz, vice president of original content, EMEA at Netflix, in a blog.

Netflix began developing relationships across CEE seven years ago, localising its content in Poland in a year later, and soon after becoming available in Romanian, Czech, Hungarian, Croatian and Ukrainian. It has invested around $115m in original films and series in Poland alone, such as The Woods, Sexify and Rojst ’97, as well as creating over 2,600 jobs across the country’s creative industry.

CEE has also become a “strategic production hub” for Netflix, with Extraction 2 and the first series of Shadow & Bone shot in the region. The CEE hub is the latest European hub for Netflix, joining the streamer’s bases in Shepperton, Pinewood and Longcross in the UK, as well as those in Spain and Sweden.
