Brief Bring to life the series in which David Attenborough examines some of nature’s evolutionary anomalies.
How it was done Red Bee created promos, beginning and end-of parts and idents, adopting a mixed-media approach of 2D animation and 3D elements.
The TV spot was overseen by Strange Beast director Adam Parry, with the team hand-animating some of the butterflies, while the paper sea and chameleon were built in 3D then textured to match the marbled page on which the chameleon sits.
Most of the sequence was created in After Effects, with Adobe Illustrator used for some of the 2D animals, which were then animated in After Effects.
Because it is a fluid sequence made up of transitions, a big challenge was restructuring it for a range of versions.
