Framestore has hired Autodesk’s Steve MacPherson as its chief technology officer for visual effects.

The new role has been developed to ensure that the company “continues to maintain and grow its position ahead of the film technology curve.”

MacPherson has worked for NASA via the supercomputer company Cray Research and was most recently senior manager and production specialist at Autodesk.

He also helped to found Double Negative and has held production and infrastructure development roles at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and MPC.

Framestore chief executive William Sargent said: “This combination of high performance computing, post-production and software development expertise will take our film VFX to the next level. Steve’s addition to Framestore will keep us one step ahead of the competition.”
