First look: The Dry, BritBox

Filming has commenced on BritBox’s original comedy-drama, The Dry, produced by Normal People producer Element Pictures.

Award-winning playwright and screenwriter Nancy Harris (Dates) and director Paddy Breathnach (Viva, Rosie) are behind the eight-part series which is set in Dublin and stars Roisin Gallagher (The Fall, Nowhere Special) and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones, The Terror).

The series, produced in partnership with Irish broadcaster RTÉ and in association with Screen Ireland, follows the story of a woman (Gallagher) who returns home to Dublin after years of partying in London. However, her efforts to remain sober are challenged as being back with her family makes staying on ‘the dry’ much harder than she expected.  

Emma Norton, Michael Dawson, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe are exec producing alongside the writer Harris.
