Netflix has ordered two more series of romantic series Heartstopper from See-Saw Films, following its launch last month.

Based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels of the same name, the first series followed the beginnings of a romance between Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) and introduced viewers to their school friends including transgender Elle, played by Yasmin Finney, who has just been cast as Rose in the next series of Doctor Who.

The premise of series two is yet to be revealed.

“I hope that it inspires, particularly, young queer people to believe that they can find happiness and find romance and find friendship,” Oseman told Netflix fan site Tudum.

Oseman exec produces alongside See-Saw’s head of development for TV Patrick Walters, joint managing directors Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, and director Euros Lyn.

Walters said the “beautiful, unique story at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people.”
