Katherine Nash is promoted from business operations manager role
Katherine Nash has been named as the new head of studios at Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios, Broadcast Tech sister site The Knowledge has exclusively revealed.
Nash will lead on all commercial aspects of the running of the studio as well as the sister facility TBY2 – 11 stages in total – including sales, operations, client relationships and strategic partnerships. Working closely with Bristol City Council, she will play a critical role in business planning and future strategic growth of the studios.
As part of her previous remit as business operations manager, a role she had held since 2020, Nash was instrumental in the operational design and delivery of the £12m TBY2 facility, which opened in 2022, adding three soundstages to the studios’ overall portfolio.
Nash was also a key driver behind TBY2’s 1MW rooftop solar array, funded by Bristol Energy Cooperative, believed to be the UK’s biggest community-owned PV rooftop and part of Bristol City Council’s innovative City Leap sleeving network.
This project won the 2023 Global Production Award at Cannes for Best Sustainability Initiative. Earlier this year, TBY2 was named the highest-performing studio among more than 30 facilities in the 2025/26 BAFTA albert Studio Sustainability Standard, achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating alongside the Studios’ main site ‘Excellent’ certification. The Bottle Yard Studios was also shortlisted for Studio of the Year at the 2025 Global Production Awards at Cannes.
In 2011, Nash became the Bottle Yard’s first studio co-ordinator, having previously worked in locations for HETV.
She said of her new role: “As someone who has been passionately committed to The Bottle Yard since its inception, I’m excited to bring to this role my knowledge and experience of the Studios and its important position within the wider filming ecosystem in Bristol and the West of England.
“I look forward to delivering the best studio experience for The Bottle Yard’s valued clients and ensuring that the three core principles of our brand – Studios, Sustainability and Skills – are embedded throughout the business.”
The new-hire announcement follows the departure of Laura Aviles, who oversaw The Bottle Yard Studios as part of her role as head of film for Bristol City Council from September 2020 until July 2025. Aviles is joining the advisory council at Patchway Studios.
Bristol has become a global production hub, with the Bottle Yard Studios and TBY2 having boosted the international profile of the city as a film-friendly destination.
The economic impact of productions filming on location in Bristol and at The Bottle Yard Studios rose by 55% in 2024-25 to £46.6m, according to recent annual figures from Bristol Film Office.
29 major productions were assisted by Bristol Film Office and The Bottle Yard Studios throughout the 2024-25 financial year (including three feature films and 26 HETV productions) with a total of 736 filming days supported in the studio and on location, and 689 filming permits processed.
With the second series of Disney+’s Rivals currently in production at TBY2, recent productions to have filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios include: Saoirse Ronan feature Bad Apples, The Forsytes (Channel 5/PBS Masterpiece), Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV), The Seven Dials Mystery (Netflix), Inheritance (Sky Studios), Can You Keep A Secret? (BBC) and The Dream Lands (BBC).
