There’s just over a week left to enter the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021 after the deadline has been extended to Friday 24 September.

The Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards is now in its third year after a sell-out gala awards celebration in year one (see below) and a successful virtual awards event last year.

The winners of the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021 will be announced at a gala awards dinner on 30 November at The Brewery, London.

The Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021 celebrates the role technology plays in creating and broadcasting the most outstanding productions of the past year.

The awards focus on the teamwork behind the productions, highlighting the outstanding creative and technical aspects of the projects.

The Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021 is made up of 24 categories, including a number of new categories and tweaks to existing categories for 2021.

The new categories include Standout Tech of the Year; Technical Innovation – Entertainment; and Streaming Platform of the Year.

The awards will take place in the evening of 30 November, following Broadcast’s one-day Tech Fest event, which supports the awards with a series of comprehensive panels and sessions, taking place at the same venue.

The closing date for entries is 24 September 2021, and the qualifying period for the project submissions is 2 July 2020 and 1 August 2021.

The 24 categories for the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021 are:

Best Innovation in Lockdown

This category rewards the most novel tech-driven innovation to be rolled out during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Best Title Sequence

This award will go to a TV title sequence the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its creative excellence.

Best Use of AI and ML/Automation

This award will go to a project the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its use of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Best Use of Creative Innovation (Cloud/MAM)

This award goes to a development the judges consider to be exceptional in its use of the cloud and/or media asset management (MAM) systems in transforming traditional ways of working.

Best Use of Remote Production (News and Entertainment)

This category rewards the best use of remote production in a news or entertainment broadcast.

Best Use of Remote Production (Sport)

This category rewards the best use of remote production in a sports broadcast.

Best VFX Project

This award will go to a TV production the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its use of visual effects.

Creative Use of AR or VR

This category rewards the best use of AR or VR in TV, sports or advertising.

Excellence in Audio Post-Production (Non-Scripted)

This award will go to a non-scripted TV production the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its audio post-production.

Excellence in Audio Post-Production (Scripted)

This award will go to a scripted TV production the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its audio post-production.

Excellence in Grading (Non-Scripted)

This award will go to a non-scripted TV production the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its colour grading work.

Excellence in Grading (Scripted)

This award will go to a scripted TV production the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its colour grading work.

Excellence in Localisation

This award will go to a television localisation project the judges consider demonstrates excellence in the field.

Excellence in Restoration/ Remastering (Film & TV)

This award will go to a TV restoration /remastering project the judges consider to be outstanding in terms of its transformation.

Excellence in Virtual Studios (Sports and Entertainment)

The judges are looking for an outstanding example of a virtual studio environment for a sports or entertainment broadcast.

Innovative Use of Technology in Storytelling

This award will go to a TV production the judges consider to have made the most pioneering use of technology as part of the storytelling process.

Standout Tech of the Year

This award goes to a tech product or service that has had a major impact on the industry over the last year.

Streaming Platform of the Year

This category rewards streaming platforms that have adapted the most in the last year, to offer its subscribers substantially improved services and content.

Sustainability Project of the Year

This award will go to a TV production, broadcast company or project that has excelled in creating a sustainable working environment.

Technical Innovation – Entertainment

The judges are looking for an outstanding example of invention and innovation through the creative use of technology during an entertainment broadcast.

Technical Innovation – Sport

The judges are looking for an outstanding example of invention and innovation through the creative use of technology during a sports broadcast.

Young Talent of the Year – Post-Production (Free to enter)

Nominate that young star within your company that has shown considerable tenacity and commitment to the business in the last 12 months.

Young Talent of the Year – Production (Free to enter)

Nominate that young star within your company that has shown considerable tenacity and commitment to the company or project in the last 12 months.

Special Recognition Award (Not Enterable)

This will be awarded by the Broadcast Tech team to an individual or organisation that has made a major contribution to the industry and has had a notable impact during the last 12 months.
