Freefolk has launched a new division called Freefolk Film & Episodic, which is run by a dedicated team and led by VFX supervisor, Steve Murgatroyd and VFX executive producer, Meg Guidon.

The team also includes head of 3D, Harin Hirani and new hire, senior lead Nuke artist Simon-Pierre, whose credits include Gravity, Interstellar, Cursed and The Third Day.

As well as staff, Freefolk has also made a “considerable investment” in infrastructure to kit up the new wing, which is run separately to Freefolk Commercials.

Freefolk began working on episodic and film work a number of years ago, and in the last 18 months its credits include Cursed (Netflix) for which it’s been nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award; The Third Day (Sky / HBO); and most recently, Pennyworth, season 2 for Warner Horizon.

Murgatroyd said: “We now have an impressive credit list, a strong team and a fully upgraded technical set up, specifically designed for this type of work. We are now in a position to scale up to 100+ artists, have the ability to deliver at 8K and are excited about the continued growth of Freefolk Film & Episodic.”
