Turner EMEA has signed up as the first client of Meta, a new metadata mastering and delivery platform.

The Meta platform is set to roll out across Turner’s EMEA portfolio of linear channels, digital properties, web games and suite of OTT services, starting with the TCM EPG, standalone kids app Toonix and movie streaming service FilmStruck.

Meta CEO Robin Tucker said: “Quality metadata is now the life-blood of the industry, and if there are inconsistencies it can create costly problems that are compounded all along the supply chain.”

The platform is applicable to linear content (through improved EPG synopsis), OTT and D2C content (through improved descriptions and the addition of new attributes like sub-genres, moods and keywords) and games.

Meta said that pairing detailed and contextual content metadata with user profiles will allow Turner to move beyond simple ratings predictions into personalised ranking, advanced recommendation algorithms and intelligent image selection.

Turner senior vice president of international operations James Crossland said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve the consumer experience we offer, and now we can provide a richer, more personalised service for our users.”

Meta will be providing demonstrations of the platform at IBC on September 15th & 16th.
