The BBC is the world's first broadcaster to adopt video disk technology developed by British company BrandTheory to market its programmes, writes Barbara Marshall. The DigiMediaDisk has been used for the launch of BBC drama series Spooks instead of traditional VHS and print materials. The disk 'fools' any office Mac or PC into delivering full-screen, full-motion video without the need for a DVD player as well as providing music, stills and text-based information. The technology was first adopted by Universal Music in its global marketing campaign for Bob Marley last year and has since been used by other record labels in the UK and US (Broadcast, 31.8.01).
