The Foundry has introduced a new layer system to its 3D paint tool Mari.

In version 2.0 of the software, every channel is now a full, non-destructive layer stack.

The Foundry said that shaders can now use layered channels to control all aspects of the surface look including diffuse, displacement and specularity.

The software also includes updated .PSD support, which allows it to work with Adobe Photoshop and other paint software that reads .PSD files.
