Netflix hit lands four gongs

Adolescence

Owen Cooper in Adolescence

Netflix’s Adolescence scooped the most TV wins at the Golden Globe Awards last night, earning four awards in total.

The UK series, co-produced by Warp Films, Matriarch Productions and Plan B Entertainment landed the best limited series, anthology, or motion picture made for TV category as well as acting recognition for its stars Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty – all of whom had received their first nominations.

16-year-old Cooper also made history as the youngest person ever to win a Golden Globe, by picking up the best supporting actor gong.

Anticipation for a successful night had been high, with the title having previously dominated the Emmys earlier in the awards season.

In the limited series category, Adolescence beat out Netflix siblings The Beast In Me and Black Mirror, Peacock drama All Her Fault, Prime Video’s The Girlfriend and FX’s Dying for Sex. Four of the six titles hailed from UK indies, with Broke & Bones (Black Mirror), Carnival Film (All Her Fault) and The Imaginarium (The Girlfriend) joining Warp.

HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt and Apple TV comedy The Studio scooped two gongs apiece. The Pitt won best drama series and best actor in a TV series for Noah Wyle, while The Studio picked up best musical or comedy series and best actor in a TV musical or comedy series for Seth Rogen.

Another Apple TV series, Pluribus, landed best female actor for Rhea Seehorn, while Hacks’ Jean Smart picked up the best female actor for a comedy or musical for her HBO Max hit.

There was a new award for podcasts this year, which went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler. The comedian beat nominees Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess and Up First from NPR.
