Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprise roles from Netflix commission for Born Again

Daredevil

Disney+ is reviving Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, with a multi-episode run coming to the streamer in 2024.

Cox will reprise his role as the titular character alongside super-villain Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, in the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again, which initially aired on Netflix.

The announcement was slipped into Marvel Studios’ presentation at Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend, although further details were not forthcoming.

Daredevil’s return ends speculation about the future of the show, which was commissioned by Netflix in 2013 as part of a four-series and mini-series commitment to Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters.

Produced by then Marvel Television and ABC Studios, it was the flagship title among stablemate series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and miniseries The Defenders.

The franchise was extended to include Daredevil spin-off The Punisher but time was then called on the Netflix-Marvel universe when Disney began developing its own SVoD.

The MCU titles were then added to Disney+ in major territories in March after their Netflix licenses expired, raising hopes it would lead to a reboot.

Marvel phases

The Daredevil: Born Again commission was almost swallowed up Marvel Studios’ unveiling of the next iterations of MCU (Phases 4, 5, 6) which mixes its box office features and Disney+ streaming titles.

Imminent series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Phase 4), will be followed by Phase 5 Secret Invasion – in which Cobie Smulders returns as decorated spy Maria Hill – in spring 2023.

Three series – Echo, Loki series two, Ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos – are also in production and will all land from summer 2023 onwards.
