TAP and ScreenSkills launch disability employment hub
The TV Access Project (TAP) and ScreenSkills have united to launch TV Access Project: Employment Resources hub to assist deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent talent navigate their careers, understand their employment rights and be confident in conversations about access. The hub was created in response to feedback from focus groups of disabled freelancers about a lack of clarity over legal rights and available support resources. There will be a free-to-attend online event on 12 June featuring a keynote speech from Adolescence writer and disability advocate Jack Thorne.
Hayu reveals Real Housewives of London cast
Reality-focused SVoD Hayu has unveiled the cast of its first original commission, The Real Housewives of London. The six women are Chicago native and influencer Juliet Angus, model-turned-entrepreneur Amanda Cronin and former cast member of The Real Housewife of New Jersey Karen Loderick-Peace. They are joined by Australian Juliet Mayhew, a former Miss Galaxy Universe, Iranian socialite Panthea Parker and Nessie Welschinger, owner of Chelsea Cake Company and former Bake Off: The Professionals. The Real Housewives of London is the 30th instalment of the popular franchise and is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio UK Productions (UTAS UK Productions), a division of Universal Studio Group. The series will launch later this year.
BBC1 to air Little Simz special
A special programme of performances by rapper Little Simz is heading to BBC1. Produced by CC-Lab, the 1 x 30-minute Little Simz: Live at the BBC will feature performances from her new unreleased album and her hits, filmed at Maida Vale Studios. The programme will be hosted by Clara Amfo, who will also reveal the story of her career from freestyling on 1Xtra aged 11 to Mercury Prize success. The show will air on Wednesday 4 June at 11:40pm and again on BBC3 the following day. Jason Hocking exec produces, production manager is Fran Langlands, producer is Mark Thorne, and the director is Ed Coleman.
PGGB partners with Garden Studios on sustainability initiative
The Production Guild of Great Britain’s (PGGB) sustainability committee has teamed up with Garden Studios for the third iteration of the Sustainability Behind the Lens event. The free open day invites PGGB members and non-members to meet with green technology suppliers, who will demonstrate cutting edge tech at the forefront of sustainability in the film and TV industry. Among those companies confirmed to attend include Onbio, Geopura, The Generator Project, Albert and CAMA Asset Store. The event will take place at Garden Studios on 11 June.
STV Player locks in on Manhunt: Unabomber
US drama Manhunt: Unabomber will be available to stream for free on STV Player after the VoD acquired the rights for it. The eight-part series follows Jim Fitzgerald (Sam Worthington), an FBI profiler tasked with tracking down terrorist Ted Kaczynski (Paul Bettany) and who must also square off against internal bureaucracy opposed to his ways of doing things. The second instalment in the Manhunt anthology series, Deadly Games, is also available on STV Player, as part of its deal with Lionsgate.
